Where to begin with describing Prism: Light the Way? Alright, it’s a puzzle game. I suppose that’s important fact number one. Beyond that, there’s a story about some little alien guys called Glowbos that live in caves and they need light to survive There are also little aliens called Bulboids and surprise - they supply the light. Unfortunately this symbiotic relationship isn’t so easy as the Bulboids tend to have difficulty shining their light in the correct direction and in the right color for the Glowbos. That’s where you come in. Using prisms, mirrors, gems, and other refraction tools your job is to get the light from the Bulboids to the Glowbos. Trust me, it’s easier said than done.

The game is played on the DS’ touch screen and you’ll use the stylus to rearrange the Bulboids and items throughout the level. There are several different gameplay modes, including just a basic puzzle mode with over 100 levels, a timed mode, an infinite mode, and of course, multiplayer. There’s a also a tutorial to show you the ropes and learn what each item does. I played through the first 30 levels of puzzle mode and at first I was concerned that the game might be too easy. Thankfully the difficulty begins to pick up at a comfortable rate, giving you plenty of opportunities to learn little tricks along the way and implement them later on. This is one puzzle game that shouldn’t turn people off with a steep learning curve. The early levels also offer hints just in case you need some help, but the sense of accomplishment immediately vanishes as soon you let the game start helping you.

We didn’t get a chance to try out the multiplayer mode yet, but it does support single cartridge download play. We’ll check that out along with the other modes in the next week or so leading up to the review of Prism: Light the Way. Be sure to check back for our final thoughts on Prism in a little bit!
