By now, most marathon gamers have finished up their first run through Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. But don't worry if you're still lagging behind - take your time. There's a lot to experience in MGS4, so savor it. For those that are looking for more to do in Hideo Kojima's opus, the first place to start is collecting all of the alternate FaceCamos and costumes hidden throughout the game. We'll break them down for you, and even tell you how to get them all. Be warned: there are spoilers in the list below, so if you haven't finished the game, now is a good time to bail out, unless you really want to hunt for the secrets on your first run.
Command Vests
Command Vests don't do much but make sure Snake's outfit matches, so managing them really isn't something you should worry about. The game begins with five different colors available (khaki, olive drab, black, grey, navy blue), with another five to unlock by beating the game once (green, blue, red, orange, tan).
FaceCamo
The FaceCamo is an add-on to your OctoCamo that you receive at the end of Act 2. You'll get a number of FaceCamos strictly by progressing through the game, but there are a number of secret masks to unlock as well. Here's how to get them:
FaceCamo
Defeat Laughing Octopus.
Young Snake
Obtained at the beginning of Act 3.
Young Snake with Bandana
Obtained at the beginning of Act 3.
Young Snake (MGS1)
Obtained at the beginning of Act 4.
Laughing Beauty
Do a nonlethal takedown of Laughing Octopus.
Raging Beauty
Do a nonlethal takedown of Raging Raven.
Crying Beauty
Do a nonlethal takedown of Crying Wolf.
Screaming Beauty
Do a nonlethal takedown of Screaming Mantis.
Otacon

Raiden (Closed Helmet)
Run into Sunny with Metal Gear Mk.II during a Mission Briefing
Raiden (Open Helmet)
Run into Naomi with Metal Gear Mk.II during a Mission Briefing
Drebin
Collect 60 weapons
Big Boss
Obtain the Big Boss emblem, which requires a perfect game on The Boss Extreme difficulty:
- 0 alerts
- 0 kills
- 0 continues
- 0 rations, noodles, or regains
- Play time under 5 hours
Costumes
Costumes really only serve to make Snake look cool. Sure there's one act when it's encouraged to wear a costume, but it's not even remotely necessary. Here's what you can get:
Formal Suit
Beat the game once.
Civilian
Obtained at the beginning of Act 3.
Altair
Obtain the Assassin emblem, which has the following conditions:
- 50 or more CQC holds
- 50 or more knife kills/stuns
- Discovered no more than 25 times
Middle East Militia
Hidden in a locker in the Militia Safe House in Act 1.
South American Rebel
Hidden in a building in Cove Valley Village at the beginning of Act 2. In order to get in, you'll have to save the rebels being held as prisoners by the PMCs. Once freed, they'll unlock a room with some weapons and the outfit.
Secret Items
They're not technically part of Snake's outfit, but these items are mainstays for the series and requisite challenges for Metal Gear fans.
Bandana (Infinite Ammo)
Complete the game with the following conditions:
- 0 kills
The Bandana also becomes available from Drebin for 5,000,000 DP after completing the game.
Stealth Camo
Complete the game with the following conditions:
- 0 alerts
The Stealth Camo also becomes available from Drebin for 5,000,000 DP after completing the game.
